Braidwood Quilters Inc. Newsletter May 2008
Publicity/Editor Jill McLeod
Everyone will be able to download and print an entry form for the Quilt Event from our new website. When the QE08 brochure is complete there will be more information about the event and the fringe festival put up on the site. Jan has been very busy collecting sponsorships and so far the prize money equals last year with the $500 Acquisitive Art Quilt Award sponsored by FyreGallery, $200 each for the indoor and outdoor Viewers’ Choice Awards and the $100 prize for the best quilt made from Australian designed fabrics sponsored by The Braidwood Quilt Shop. If any of our members are associated with fringe events and would like their information to be included in the brochure they need to advise me as soon as possible. I am hoping to get it to the printer before the end of May.

Welcome to the second newsletter for 2008. You will notice that the format has changed since our last newsletter. This change is to allow the newsletter to be easily loaded onto our new website
The first item for this newsletter is to thank enthusiastically our new website designer Noel Francis who has prepared a delightful site for us. Crisp, pretty and straightforward, the site is easy to navigate, contains all important and any other information we might wish to include and contains a news section which can be updated on a regular basis. Thankyou Noel, very much, for your willing and knowledgeable help in this, our latest, endeavour.
The Mid-year Country Luncheon will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at the National Theatre, commencing at 10 am with morning tea. All our quilting friends (and non-quilting friends) are invited to attend and we promise them a very enjoyable day. There will be entertainment, a guest speaker, catered lunch, continuous raffles, Show and Tell, and plenty of fun. Tickets are now available at $25 from June, Jill and Jan. Braidwood Quilters need to be quick booking their place and we are always much in demand from outside Braidwood and there are only 100 places available.
Our Community Quilt Workshops have been most successful, the first one being held on March 11 in the National Theatre when seventeen participated. The second, held in April and the third held on May 6, were in the Anglican Hall (thankyou Marilla) and were also well attended. Thankyou to those who have helped and especially to those who have consistently turned up with machines, ironing boards, irons, cutting boards and all the paraphernalia required to set up a workshop. Thankyou to those who have taken homework away with them and have helped speed up the process. The next workshop will be held at the Servicemen’s Club on Tuesday, May 20, commencing at 9 am and we thought it might be nice to have lunch at the club as we will not be getting together for a workshop again until August - neither June or Jill will be available in June and we will have our luncheon to manage in July. Please tell friends about our project to make 25 quilts for our nursing home and Narbethong residents and the special purpose room at the MPS – they might like to join in as well.
Three of our members entered quilts in the Collector Pumpkin Festival Quilt Competition. June was asked to judge one section of the competition. Unfortunately none of us, June, Jill or Robyn, came away with any awards but it was fun to enter – being inspired by pumpkins was a new challenge. We hope to put some photos up on the web when we next update.

SALES TABLE Phyllis Keeley has kindly agreed again to look after the National Theatre Sales Table. This is a great opportunity to sell some of your creative work just in time for the people who use the Quilt Event to start their Christmas shopping. Phyllis has forms on which you can list the items that you are placing on the sales table. It is important to use the forms so we can keep track of stock and sales. If you would like more details about the sales table please ring Jill on 4842 2626 or June on 4842 2355.

BQI BUSH FIRE PROJECT REPORT Lily Roberts, coordinator for the support given to the quilters and craftswomen of the Taggerty/Buxton/Narbethong triangle in Victoria will perform the official opening of the Braidwood Quilt Event on Friday evening, November 27. BRAIDWOOD HOSPITAL FEATURES IN QUILT EVENT
The Braidwood Hospital (BMPS) will feature significantly during Quilt Event 2009. The Hospital will display the thirty quilts presented to the nursing home and Narbethong Hostel for the Frail Aged by Braidwood Quilters and friends during 2008-2009. Providing the weather is fine, the quilts will be displayed outside around the garden area which is looking very pretty in its Spring finery. A raffle will also be held to aid the Doug Smith Appeal. As well Jenny Wallace’s garden will be open to raise funds for the Doug Smith Appeal and the Hospital Auxiliary will hold a garden party at Long Barn on the corner of Ryrie Street and Coronation Avenue. |

COMMUNITY QUILTS New arrivals at the Braidwood Nursing Home and Narbethong means that we will need to make some more quilts to have ready on hand when needed. In the meantime the Westmead quilts are progressing well.
