The 2008 Quilt Event
The weekend activities started with a colourful evening on Friday night in the National Theatre where Lorraine Moran editor of Down Under Quilts officially opened the 2008 Quilt Event. About 50 people attended the opening and had a preview of the wonderful display in the National Theatre while enjoying the hospitality of the Quilt Event committee.
Saturday we awoke to a cool misty morning but, with some trepidation, the decision was taken to hang the quilts on the buildings of the main street. Our many visitors enjoyed the colourful display along the length of the street and the markets in the park.
The National Theatre on both Sat and Sun saw a steady stream of people admiring the quilt display and finding something useful on the trading table, at times, when the weather closed in, the theatre could hardly accommodate the number of people, but all were enjoying themselves and the theatre was nice and warm.
At the Servicemens Club, where Eyeline, by the Canberra group tACTile, and Jenny Burton’s antique quilts were on display, well over 300 visitors saw the spectacular display that Eyeline is and had a chance to purchase an antique quilt or other item from Jenny.
Prior to the official opening on Friday the indoor quilts were judged in their various categories.
